Daily living

The people in Buggio grow their own crops; mainly different kinds of tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, green beans, white “Pigna beans”, celery, leeks, potatoes, fennel, asparagus, strawberries, cucumber, lettuce, kale and other leaves, all sorts of herbs and even rhubarbs.

The land is divided into small plots located outside the village by the upper parking lot. There is an irrigation system that runs from the river, to water the land. Every spring a couple of villagers go up the river to regulate the irrigation system, as the winter rain turns the river wild, and disregulates the tubes.

We also have villagers who grow greenery like eucalyptus, “Ruscus” and “pitosfero” – they are members of smaller co-ops that buy their plants and sell them on to mainly Holland (which distributes to all of Europe), the USA and Japan.

Below is a short film of the plots for growing food.
