San Rocco, a L’Ausegno

Every year on 16th of August, we hike to the small chapel on L’Ausegno, a hilltop above our village.

Every year has a “Priore” and a “Prioresse” who are in charge of cleaning the small church, decorating it for the event, and they provide food and drinks for all the visitors. A lot of the food making is made by other locals, so we can serve different dishes and “dolce”.
This year, on August 16 2019, we started a new tradition. Prioresse Helle Alex bought re-useable plastic plates and cups, and visitors were asked only to bring knives and forks for themselves. As a part of the new global spirit, we eliminated waste – left over food was bagged for the local chicken, and all dishes were taken home to be washed. The small baskets for the “dolce” are also re-useable!
So, we ended up with only a small bag of used paper napkins, and a bigger bag for empty wine bottles, which was all recycled. Yes, it felt good 🙂
